The definition of
community is a place where there is gift exchange. And the
converse of that would be, if you wish to destroy community, a
good way to do it is to turn all gift giving into commercial
exchanges. |

|
You can have two
societies that have the same amount of wealth, if it
circulates as a gift it feels more abundant. |

What has affected
social relations most powerfully is a gift economy. |

Here in the 21st
Century we have created a world in which we are watching as a
parade of commodities passes before us - We have been turned
into spectators and stopped being actors. |

When people are
expressing their art, they are expressing their spirit. |
|
|
|
|
|
People find meaning
thru the various rituals here, they find a spiritual
connection to this land, to this barren forsaken desert and
the way in which it challenges them can be a very spiritually
moving rich experience. |

Part of its success is
that it does not try and feed a message specifically, it
allows you to find your own meaning. |

participatory artistic practice. |

We are all here for
the same reason, to experience each other. |

The irony is that this
gift process actually produces wealth. |
|
|
|
|
|
Who would have ever
thought the operation of gift giving would create an abundance
in this seared desert environment. |

The radicalness of it
is not that it is offensive or edgy or in your faceshocking - The radicalness of it is that it is coming straight
out of your heart and it is going public, where else do you
get that chance otherwise. |

When you give freely
without the guarantee of compensation, the reward is the
journey itself. |

When you give a gift
you can't control it, you have to risk yourself. |

We raised $6000,
rented an RV, bought 5000 bottles of water, drove across
