Burning Man - A Week of Radical Self Expression

'Burning Man is an Adult Playland', a 29-Hour a day party for a week; A Globally Charged Community in the desert of Northern Nevada.

'You can vacation in say Jamaica and see things that millions have seen before you and millions will see after you...Or you can trek yourself & stuff to BRC and see things that will only be available for one week to see'

Here is an interesting look back at what Burning Man has meant to me and the lessons I have learned each year...

2000 > 2001 > 2002 > 2003 > 2004 > 20052006 > 2007 > 2008 >
2009 > 2010 > 2011 > 20122013  >  20142015 > 2016 > 2017 > 2018

2011 – Taking The Next Step in Leadership
This will be my 12th trip to Black Rock City. Each year I get involved in so many great projects via the Burning Man Web Team that fill my year-round calendar; keeps me 'In the Loop' and 'In The Know'; I kinda like that. I cannot image my life without Burning Man; major kudos to my life partner WildChild for keeping up with the pace.

Playa Lessons Learned…

  • 2011 will be my 12th Burn & 10th serving as Camp Daddy, Benevolent Dictator of PolyParadise.

  • Sitting on the sidelines no more; taking a more active role in the AZBurner Community - A candidate for Arizona Regional Contact.

  • A Holiday Wish Fulfilled - Selected to serve as Co-Arizona Regional Contact.  I look forward to a new way to contribute to AZBurning Man  and be part of another new subset of Burners, the Regional Network.

  • Burning Man Lesson: Sometimes your Bad-Day is just not my problem...

  • Burning Man Lesson: Knowing when to respond; knowing regardless of your opinions or how strongly you agree or disagree, no matter how much you want to respond, as a leader - There is a time to step back and see the bigger picture.

  • Burning Man Lesson: A gift does not need to be 'String Free' in order to be a gift.  Gifts with conditions are still gifts from the giver.

  • Burning Man Lesson: Giving up control and trusting in people means Scotto sits more and does not need to be a 24/7 Energizer Bunny.

  • Burning Man Lesson: Delegation - Choose the right individual/group for the project/task wisely...Once you cross that threshold you no longer have control...The process created & implemented by some one else should not be needled but encouraged.

  • Burning Man Lesson: This year I watched, learned & reflected as I saw the Burn on a more individual/couple struggle with the elements and over the top way the Playa can be as people wafted in and out of conversations or within earshot...

  • Burning Man Lesson: Sometimes you have to call people on their own Bullshit...

What lessons did you learn from Burning Man & the Playa in 2011?
