'Burning Man is an Adult Playland',
a 29-Hour a day party for a week; A Globally Charged Community in the desert
of NorthernNevada.
'You can vacation in say Jamaica and see things that millions have seen
before you and millions will see after you...Or you can trek yourself & stuff to
BRC and see things that will only be available for one week to see'

Beyond Black Rock - A Burning Man Movie
The
movie
Black Rock
Burning is another excellent video dialog of BRC.
Here are my favorite
quotes from the film.

Burning Man is a week-long yearly festival that transforms
Black Rock Desert into a community based on 'Radical
Self-reliance' People come to create, to witness creation and
to recreate themselves. It is the inner life turned outward.
It is about goodness. It is about sin.
Prepare to enter the ephemeral world of Burning Man.

Dear Elise, I am very worried about you going to Burning
Man...You are putting yourself in extreme danger.
Physically because the desert is dangerous especially
when you are not familiar with that type of climate.
I just do not think you know enough of how to survive
in the desert. You are also putting
yourself in great spiritual danger, because there is nothing
of God where you are going and what you will be experiencing.
This is very Pagan and total evil, which you will see if you
decide to go. Ask yourself this, is going
to Burning Man worth loosing your life and possibly your
soul...Love Mom.

In reality it is the art we make out of our lives...Burning
Man happens to be our canvas. We paint what
we want on it. It is an important thing, it
is not just a festival, its not just a party, it is an
important form of expression.

We have 800ft of sail we are going to put up...We hope we
don't tip over...But we might...We do not want to run into any
Fire Breathing Dragon's and catch on fire, but we might...We
hope we do not blow anybody up...But we might.

The Temple of Tears - The center of the alter is reserved
for people who have taken their own life, the reason I chose
that is because he in our culture we embrace things, tolerate
things and celebrate things that the outside world does not
understand. This year it is about a gift,
the Temple of Joy.

Reflect on those gifts that people have given you in your
life and thank them...You also reflect on those gifts that you
refuse to take. The opportunities in your
life that you did not take advantage of...You can spend all
your life in remorse. I cannot erase
anything, the temple cannot erase memories but...If you take
that information that is in your heart and you put it on a
block and you take it outside yourself, forgive yourself, you
will have joy. Someone will still come up
to you and say you didn't do this or you could have done
that...and you say I know and I have made my peace with
that...It will not go in you again.

When you come
out here you are basically away from everything, structures,
cultures, there is a vacuum, a void that happens, we try and
fill it with the camps and art. The constraints of the
society you grew up in do not apply anymore. Its actually
quite humbling to go out on the desert and find a structure
like that and realize that someone built it solely for you to
find it . |
