February 2003:

After a hard drive failure in November of last year, we are looking into new systems and ways of composing. The crash wasn’t so bad, we were able to recover the 3 main tracks that we were working on and transfer them to the new drive we bought. The problem we are having is the inherent lack of flexibility using ACID to compose. After much research on the matter and deciding that looped based composition is the way we want to continue to produce music, we’ve decided to go with SONAR XL as the new way we are going to produce. Sonar allows us to continue to work with loops, but also allows us enhanced mixdown features not available in Acid. Also, Sonar is much better at recording and editing vocals than what Acid allowed and it handles MIDI sequences in a better format too.

We are currently pricing new recording machines out as well, and it looks like we’re going to be getting a 2+ghz PC based machine with a gig of ram and 2 audio only drives set up on raid1 so when we lose a drive again we won’t be losing our work. We’re also working out offsite backup in case (god forbid) our studio burns down or some other catastrophe befalls us. This will probably involve having a third audio drive live at one of our friend’s houses or down the street in our safety deposit box. We heard about what happened to BT last year when his studio was ripped off and we also heard about Erica Badu losing her entire new album in a studio fire. (Duho!!) Redundant drives mean nothing if you’ve got no offsite backup does it?

Our singer Brianne is still recovering from a major car accident that occurred in Texas in May of last year. The down time has been spent working on new material and further developing our sound. Rest assured that when the new material starts coming out its going to kick some major ass. The new stuff is heavier, louder, and more dynamic than anything we’ve produced to date. We’re also working on some cover tunes that have been driving us crazy so we need to record them.

Watch this space.

We’ve spent the last couple years listening to other people about how we should or should not sound. Henceforth we will only be working on material that kicks our asses and reflects truly where we are at artistically and musically. Realizing that there’s not a lot of money in electronic & dance music, it then needs to be about ART in its purest form, that is, art of the self. That is where we are today! Check back soon.----Cammy

MPC2000 SEMINAR

Due to popular demand we're getting ready to shoot a video about the MPC2000 Drum machine. Sort of a seminar explaining our understanding of the intricacies of this piece of gear. Talking about "feel" is one thing but to hear & see it is quite another. We think this will help all those people out there who are a bit confused about the way that atomic level timing changes can totally affect a pattern's feel, and thus the songs feel as well. We're pretty much just gonna focus on the quantize function and how complicated it can get tweaking drum patterns to swing. Any ideas? We could use some.
