I
went to Burning Man in ’98 then had to live on the East Coast until
recently. Now I live in Scottsdale, and here are my share- travel
idea(s):
From my experience, the Enterprise Rent-A-Van rented here locally
and driven there would be my choice of attending BM, since it could
be stuffed full of stuff that flying to Reno on a commercial
airliner couldn’t accommodate. (Forgive me if I am reinventing the
wheel here)
Anyway, I always thought that a caravan of vans could form a square,
pentagon, hexagon, etc. once there, and by using sandbags that could
be filled (by digging a moat around the camp) with dirt, a
semi-protected area could be shared by all of the vans.
I have a recumbent bicycle that I intend to modify to make it appear
to be a human powered helicopter. It would take up a lot of room in
the van on the way to and from. (I don’t think it will be lashable
to the roof; it wouldn’t fit any standard bike carrier once
reconfigured)
So I could share my van with one or two people if each was bringing
a tent and just need a lift there, could drive some of the way and I
guess chip in for gas; I’d pay 100% for the van since it will be my
shelter there.
Alternatively, if someone else is already fired up on this idea, I
would be willing to tag along with them.; and maybe either way, the
bike could ride in a U-Haul trailer. I towed one with an SUV to BM
the last time.
