Alcohol is the most common mind altering substance at Burning
Man.
The best advice I can give as a veteran is Do Not Over Do It, especially if you
are going to be on the playa for a week.
Keep in mind that Alcohol sucks the water from your body. That in combination
with the environment can easily lead to dangerous dehydration. I have seen it
happened to people unexpectedly.
It is also a good idea to know what you are drinking. That person with the water
gun full of alcohol may be giving you something very strong. Burning Man is an
event you are going to want to remember. Don’t drink so much you forget some of
the best moments.
Burning Man can also be a dangerous place sober; don’t be so drunk you place
your self in danger.
Driving is not an option at Burning Man unless you have an art car. But even
ridding your bike drunk can harm you and others.
If you choose to do other mind altering substances understand that the law at
Burning Man is the same as it is in the rest of the State of Nevada.
Use and possession of illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia and possession of such
drugs with the intent to distribute are violations of the law. If you are seen
with drugs from the street or in a public area the police can take the same
action as they can anywhere else. You may be fined or arrested.
More importantly you may have to leave the event because of it.
There are police at Burning Man and there are even occasionally under cover
officers.
Burning Man is not a drug fest. And a lot of the times it is so totally
unnecessarily. Burning Man it self is a mind altering substance.
Be aware of what people give you. A cookie is not always just a cookie. Ask
before eating! If you are taking any kind of drugs on the playa be very aware of
what you are doing. It is a very long way to a hospital.
Do enjoy your self and do have fun, but be careful and above all be informed and
knowledgeable about what you are doing.
